Today is Day 3 1/2 in San Francisco, and I have lots of things to blog about when we get home next Tuesday. For now, here are a couple of Alcatraz pics to wet your appetite. It's gonna take me a day or two to get the other pics uploaded.
The rooms are done in lovely pastels. I see the fresh sheets, the individual soap, an extra blanket, a room service menu...but I don't see a mint on the pillow. WHERE IS THE MINT ON THE PILLOW?
At one point (I can't remember what year) Native Americans went out to Alcatraz and declared it Indian land. This happened during a time when the US was taking away a lot of their reservation space, and they took Alcatraz in protest until they were given some more reservation land. It was supposed to be symbolic that they went to the prison. They were given some land someplace though, so it worked. I assume they painted the "Indians Welcome" stuff on the prison buildings.

I see they've put out the welcome mat for Indians.

Well, HBM. I guess the mint-green walls are supposed to suffice.

What's with the special welcome for Indians? They trying to get a casino built there or does San Fransisco just really love them some free cheese?
